Photos: Displays of the future
The iMod screen from Qualcomm. The screen is essentially a complex mirror that relies on the light of the sun, or ambient artificial light, to illuminate images. As a result, the screens use far less power than conventional LCDs, which rely on electric backlights. (In low-light situations, iMod uses a front light.) Qualcomm obtained the technology when it bought Iridigm in 2004.
