Photos: NASA tests robot moon trucks
NASA is planning development of a fleet of robotic trucks and rovers designed to explore the lunar surface, which astronauts are expected to revisit around 2020.
Based on the success of Martian rovers Spirit and Opportunity, which have been exploring the planet for more than four years, NASA engineers decided to use six wheels per vehicle as a standard. Plus, they will use a concept called "crab steering", which allows all six wheels to point in the direction of travel. Remember, the nearest road will be 385,000 kilometres away.
