News.blog: Sony monitors give Post-its the nod

Monitors may be getting more and more sleek and sophisticated, but a new Sony line still makes room for an office staple workers can't let go of -- ye ole Post-it.

The E Series monitors, introduced by Sony Europe this week, extend from below the screen to the desk, hiding the control buttons within a slot on the lower right side. This extension of the monitor, according to Sony, provides a ready-made area for keeping Post-it notes and other memos in one place, while also sporting a groove for holding pens.

In this era of desktop stickies and Outlook reminders, Yoshiro Honda, display marketing manager of Sony Europe, acknowledged the abiding appeal of the little sticky note. "Sony engineers noticed that people often stick them to their computer screens as reminders, a habit which persists even in this electronic age, and so designed a computer display with an integrated area designed specifically for Post-its," he said.

Starting on 19 June, the E Series will be available in 17-inch and 19-inch screens with both digital (DVI-D) and analogue (HD-15) interfaces.
