Photos: LG.Philips' tiny LCD tech
Last week LG.Philips LCD announced it had created the "world's thinnest" thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) for mobile phones. Measuring 1.3mm thick, it is pictured here as an LG.Philips representative holds up a US quarter for perspective. This TFT LCD was among the items showcased by the company at the Society for Information Display's first Mobile Displays Conference, held this week in San Diego.
Thinner displays, of course, invite production of slimmer handsets. So if you thought the Motorola Razr was skinny, phones with these ultra-thin TFT LCDs could add new meaning to the concept. The display maker says it doesn't have any buyers for the tech yet, but its factories are already starting to churn them out. Look for this little chap in handsets due out next year.
