A genuine ticket for the Fifa World Cup Finals in Germany. This ticket, like the other three million which have been printed, includes an RFID chip that contains information about the rightful owner and the ticket's origin. This helps to verify spectators and would allow for the reissuing of legally bought tickets and the cancellation of tickets that are lost or stolen.
As ticket holders pass through the turnstiles their tickets can give up the information held on the chips, speeding up passage into the ground and creating far more accurate attendance records.
However, sites such as eBay have subsequently done a roaring trade in black market tickets and the fact many tickets were just allocated to companies, rather than individuals, means the RFID system is effective only up to a point -- many fans claim to have bought tickets allocated to sponsors.
